The customer's dream for their space
The client wanted to create a Vietnamese barbeque restaurant in London that would echo the charm of their northern riverside town of Hoi An in Vietnam. The space would be split in to a casual bar area at the front and a dining room conservatory at the back.
Re-fuze were involved at the design stage and suggested that to create this vision, the space should include large-scale plants, rattan and reclaimed wooden benches, mid-century teak cabinets and that the décor be finished off with feature graphic posters to complement the overall design.
The unique challenge for the design and build dream
The bar top was to be created out of concrete, as was a table in the bar. This meant that we had to source an expert who could cast and polish both the bar and table in situ!
There was also a requirement for a large amount of reclaimed timber to recreate that traditional Vietnamese feel - which we obtained from a contact with extensive stocks in London. In the rear dining area, we laid Terrazzo tiles sourced from Italy.
Wall lighting was custom made from noodle bowls connected by brass rods, and we contracted a specialist contact of ours to complete the look with tailor-made seating upholstery and throw pillows.
The exterior logo was laser cut from sheet brass - a task made more challenging by the extensive planning required to erect scaffolding on the street to install the sign and paint the frontage!

Turning the vision into reality
Our designers and craftsman helped to create a beautiful traditional setting that made visitors feel as if they really had stepped in to Vietnam with an open kitchen, comfortable seating, and high beam plants to create a sense of eating outside in a much warmer climate!
To ensure the smooth running of the project, we employed the services of ten additional specialists that we have worked with before and that we could trust to perform specific tasks. Obviously, this incurred additional expense but because of our experience in this area we had already factored this into the budget, something a non-specialist company would not have known.
