The customer's dream for their space
Barrio Bars model their style and design on the neighbourhoods of South America. The owner at the time had spent a lot of time travelling and was very taken by the shanty-town and Barrio style of architecture - effectively ramshackle and cobbled together housing and dwellings found in the poor parts of the cities – as well as the vibrancy of the colours.
The owner had been impressed by the specialist use of re-claimed materials in our Re-fuze builds and was keen for us to work with them.

The unique challenge for the design and build dream
Barrio bar in Shoreditch provided one of the most challenging projects we’ve had in our time as a company
The tables and seating, made from reclaimed timbers were fashioned into wood mosaic pieces, then painted in different colours and made to look old and a bit worn. The Shanty-town effect was complemented by scaffold pipe table bases and seat pieces.
Relate.
Create.

Turning the vision into reality
When you enter the bar from the street, you’re immediately greeted by booth seating created by thousands of pieces of reclaimed wood, assembled in such a way that it created a catacomb style of seating, but when zoomed out resembled a skull, a clever and inspired nod to ‘el Día de los Muertos’, the South American and Mexican ‘Day of the dead’.
The live entertainment stage area, creatively styled on the backdrop of a famous ‘Downtown; Argentinian street called ‘La boca’, is an explosion of colour on corrugated steel and reclaimed wood, carefully crafted to harness the full vibrancy of the customer’s vision.
So much creativity and dedication went into this bar, that it’s a project I look back on with fondness and it’s why we love turning up to work every day - to create something unique.
14 years later, Barrio Bar Shoreditch is still going strong, delighting late night party dwellers with its unique ambience and style and the building décor is still in great shape too!
We recommend that you check it out and have a tequila or two
